Hayley Browning - Creating the Paddle Cabin, Experiencing Breast Cancer, The SUP Life and Tasty Tomato Soup

I'm thrilled to welcome Hayley Browning to The Joy of SUP Podcast today!Known for her infectious energy and love of the outdoors, Hayley is co-founder of the award-winning Paddle Cabin and British Canoeing SUP Coach, and it’s safe to say paddleboarding has completely transformed her life since her diagnosis of breast cancer in 2017 at the age of 27.Paddleboarding has allowed her to reconnect to nature, the feeling that had been missing for her since 2010 where she lived in a wooden cabin with no electricity on a Wolf Lake in Minnesota. While having an 11 year career in the charity-corporate partnership world taught her a lot, it’s not the environment that would help her overcome the long-term physical and mental effects of having breast cancer at such a young age, unlike the positive wellbeing effects of the outdoors. After lockdown’s reflection time, quitting her 9-5 office job without a real plan and risking her life savings to follow her dream of working on the water paid off, with the opportunity of a lifetime soon coming her way. Fast forward six months, alongside her friend Jo Taylor, Hayley opened the Paddle Cabin’s door and brought the paddle life to Kent, winning awards for their paddleboarding business which has water safety and wellbeing on the water at it’s heart.Combine that love of nature, with her passion for introducing people to adventure, and getting into the nitty gritty of technical SUP coaching, that’s what you can expect from time with Hayley. Hopefully this episode will give you a flavour of paddle life at the cabin and inspire you to take that leap into your unknown, and trust the net will appear, like it did for Hayley. We talk about:The Paddle Cabin - building a partnership with Jo TaylorHer experience of Breast Cancer aged 27Living in the woods in MinnesotaThe River Medway, paddleboarding in Kent - Bewl Park and and St AndrewsBeing a British Canoeing coachSUP Yoga with India Pearson - also a guest on the podcast SUP MeditationThe SUP Life and why many of their members call it their Happy PlacePartnering with Red PaddleboardsHer favourite Tomato + Basil soupYou can find her here:Paddlecabin Website: www.paddlecabin.co.ukInstagram: PaddlecabinInstagram: Hayley personal I hope you enjoyed meeting Hayley! Om Podcasten

Sharing the joy of stand up paddleboarding. Join us for inspiring conversations with dream guests talking about all the health, happiness, friendship, adventure and possibility that SUP brings to our lives. From world endurance record holders to SUP Yoga, SUP with a Pup to SUP Surf, we will hear uplifting stories and fantastic information to help you on your paddleboarding journey. SUP has given our host, Jo Moseley, so much joy, confidence, courage and community since her first lesson in the Lake District in 2016 recovering from a knee injury. She became the first woman to paddle coast to coast across northern England, fundraising and picking up litter, has been in magazines, on the tv, radio and a guest on many podcasts. The film about her journey called Brave Enough - A Journey Home to Joy was launched to critical and audience acclaim in 2021. She has made two short award winning films about paddleboarding and written many articles. Having experienced such happiness and wellbeing, her goal in launching the podcast is to shine a light on the brilliant stories of others in the paddleboarding community and to share valuable ideas with her audience. It is both a thank you letter to everyone who has inspired, welcomed and encouraged her and a love letter to the wonderful sport. At the heart of the podcast is the idea 'We rise by lifting others' and that's what she is here to do - to welcome, encourage and celebrate you in the paddleboarding community. Whether you are dipping your paddle in the water for the first time, want to explore new places or disciplines, or have years of paddleboarding memories, you are in the right place and this is the podcast for you.
