Cadi Lambert - British Canoeing, Women in SUP Coaching, Mental Health + Paddling Friendships

I'm thrilled to welcome Cadi Lambert to the podcast. Cadi has been hugely instrumental in my own SUP journey over the last 2 years. I was honoured to work with her during my year as a #ShePaddles Ambassador.  I'm grateful I can thank her publicly on the podcast. This episode was recorded in December 2020 when Cadi was running the #ShePaddles programme at British Canoeing. This is a programme to encourage more women + girls into paddlesports and  develop their leadership + coaching roles.#ShePaddles has a number of elements: a) The 10 Women's Paddlesports Ambassadors who share a love of paddling across their social media and blogging. b) A Sport England funded programme to develop a 100 women and girls as coaches and leaders across the country in clubs. c) the Women's Paddling Community, a 2500 strong community on Facebook where women can support each other, make new friends and build their confidence. In this episode, we talk about: how the #ShePaddles programme helped increase the numbers of women joining British Canoeing since its beginning 5 years ago when the figure was 27% female membership. In 2020 40% of the new members joining British Canoeing were women. why it is important to join BC for your Waterways License - allowing  access to 4500 kms of waterways, providing insurance + supporting campaigns such as Clear Access Clear Waters environmental work. the Paddles Up Training Opportunities and Go Paddling website + resources available at British Canoeing. On a personal level, Cadi is happiest when out running the trails with her dog Brew Dog, or wild swimming in a cold lake with friends. Nature has been a huge influence in her life and helped her through the death of a partner to suicide and the loss of her Mum to cancer last year. Her desire to chase positivity and help others find theirs has led her to qualifying as a Life Coach and she plans to use the outdoors, alongside coaching to create positive change in people's lives now she has left British Canoeing. Cadi first tried SUP many years ago but thought it was only something to be done at the beach. She now loves to head out with friends for a SUP on the local rivers and canals. She hopes to live by the sea one day!You can find Cadi at: An Adventurous Girl and  ShineLifeCoach. Join us for inspiring conversations with dream guests talking about all the health, happiness, friendship, adventure and possibility that SUP brings to our lives. From world endurance record holders to SUP Yoga, SUP with a Pup to SUP Surf, we will hear uplifting stories and fantastic information to help you on your paddleboarding journey. SUP has given our host, Jo Moseley, so much joy, confidence, courage and community since her first lesson in the Lake District in 2016 recovering from a knee injury. She became the first woman to paddle coast to coast across northern England, fundraising and picking up litter, has been in magazines, on the tv, radio and a guest on many podcasts. The film about her journey called Brave Enough - A Journey Home to Joy was launched to critical and audience acclaim in 2021. She has made two short award winning films about paddleboarding and written many articles. Having experienced such happiness and wellbeing, her goal in launching the podcast is to shine a light on the brilliant stories of others in the paddleboarding community and to share valuable ideas with her audience. It is both a thank you letter to everyone who has inspired, welcomed and encouraged her and a love letter to the wonderful sport. At the heart of the podcast is the idea 'We rise by lifting others' and that's what she is here to do - to welcome, encourage and celebrate you in the paddleboarding community.
