The Incredible Power of Mentorship in Eating Disorder Recovery with Tessa Peters (Been There App)

The Eating Disorder Therapist - A podcast by HARRIET FREW - Saturdays

Today I'm speaking with Tessa Peters, CEO and founder of Been There, a charity app dedicated to helping those with body image struggles get paired with a mentor and find the support they need. Tessa was plagued with body image struggles from her earliest childhood days, into her teens and twenties and also struggling with eating disorders. She felt incredibly alone and misunderstood, and was desperate to find someone removed from friends and family, who she could trust and openly share here struggles with, someone who had been in a similar situation to her. Tessa saw counsellors, dietitians and therapists – but she felt that none of these worked for her fully and they lacked relatability. She recognised that she needed a service like Been There so decided to create this herself. Been There aims to make a positive and powerful difference to people facing body image issues. During Tessa’s own journey she eventually found a Mentor and still speaks with him today. The value of this relationship and the impact it has had on her life, has been life-saving. Been There’s volunteer Mentors are here to support people through their own journeys and make sure that no one feels alone. In the episode today, I speak to Tessa about her history of eating disorders and body image issues, and why she felt so passionately about creating Been There. I explore more about the power of mentorship that this incredible charity offers. This episode will help you feel less alone and you may want to think about Been There mentorship yourself if you are struggling. I hope that you enjoy the conversation.   To find out more about Been There: -  Website: https://beenthereapp.com/        Instagram: @beenthere.app   This week’s sponsor:  Amber Romaniuk  Amber’s podcast: https://amberapproved.ca/podcast  Amber’s website: https://amberapproved.ca/
