64: IE Stories - How an MNT professor is adding HAES to her curriculum
The Lane 9 Podcast - A podcast by Alexis Fairbanks and Heather Caplan RDN - Thursdays
Monica Milonovich is a dietitian and professor at University of Texas at Austin. She teaches Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to the UT Austin dietetic students, and also works with the dietetic interns. Last year, one of her students* asked to present on Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size, and Monica agreed without knowing what she was in for. That presentation left her feeling uncomfortable, curious, and ready to change. *If you listened to the previous episode, featuring Lauren Newman, one of the current dietetic interns at UT Austin, you're now hearing the other side of the story! Monica is working hard to expand her nutrition practices to embrace this weight-neutral, non-diet approach, and is hoping to change the UT Austin didactic programming to include this. With this episode, I hope you might feel inspired to explore these concepts and see how they can work with your nutrition career, and/or present these topics to your professor, colleagues, or peers who may be new to all of the above.
