107: Lessons learned and doing better for WIND
The Lane 9 Podcast - A podcast by Alexis Fairbanks and Heather Caplan RDN - Thursdays
ICYMI: I’m hosting the DC WIND Symposium in September! Registration is open, and the planning and execution of this next WIND event has been almost all-consuming. So, instead of your regularly scheduled interview-style episode, I’m sharing some lessons learned, bringing you behind-the-scenes with this major project. I confess to a Big Mistake I made during the WIND Workshop (a few, actually), what to expect at the DC WIND Symposium, and why I’ve shifted my stance on working with brands and company partners (who have, thus far, made most of this possible). I share an anecdote about something I’ve learned since hosting the WIND Workshop (and why I’ll be re-recording one of these sessions), and also share this important quote from an eloquent essay by the author known as Your Fat friend on Medium: “Beyond your good intentions, “the last acceptable form of discrimination” tells me that you believe racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism are all completed chapters, and that they have closed for all of us. But our attitudes are not so simple, our intent not foundational, and our history not so straightforward.” Join us for the DC WIND Symposium in September! Early-bird registration is still open as of the time of recording. More about the agenda, speaker announcements, and registration information: weightinclusivenutrition.com/events Or, apply for the WIND scholarship open to the Diversify Dietetics community! Reminder: DC WIND is happening in collaboration with Fiona Sutherland and Haley Goodrich’s non-diet approach workshop! You don’t have to register for both, but you receive a discount on registration if you do! Last but not least: If you have any questions, about HAES principles, WIND events and registration, or just life as an RD, my inbox is always open. RDREalTalk at gmail.com
