Today Andrew French, established New York City based portrait, fashion and figure photographer makes an impassioned case for film! Andy landed in New York in the 1980s – the era of Mapplethorpe, Haring & The Talking Heads. Andy was just one of a flock of aspiring photographers who made their way to the city, began assisting to launch their career. He eventually ended up working closely with many renowned shooters like Mary Ellen Mark, Ruth Orkin and Abe Fraundlich.

Nowadays he does assignments for top international publications mentors students and is a devoted advocate for natural light. Holding figure and portrait workshops at his amazing Manhattan studio, one of New York’s few remaining north-light spaces in Union Square. His fondness for film, photo processes and formats has a special place for Polaroid and Minox.
