Maria Montessori (1870-1952) was an Italian physician, pioneer, and feminist icon. Her educational method builds on the way children learn naturally, emphasizing independence and choice. Through her work and the work of her fans, the Montessori Method was adopted worldwide. She was also a champion for women’s rights and frequently spoke on the need for better opportunities for women, making her a leading feminist voice in Italy.
