Educators: Anne Sullivan

Anne Sullivan (1866-1936) was a trailblazer in the field of education. She is best known for her work with Helen Keller, a blind and deaf child she taught to communicate. Her teaching of Helen Keller changed the manner in which children with disabilities were educated. She was kind and compassionate and never believed anyone was a hopeless case. Sullivan's story lives on through film and theatrical productions. Her work with Keller was immortalized in the play The Miracle Worker, which was later turned into the 1962 film starring Patty Duke as Keller and Anne Bancroft as Sullivan.
