Osteoarthritis and Nordic Walking with John Horton

In this episode, I’m talking to John Horton, a British Nordic Walking Instructor from Rochester in Kent.  John is also a qualified personal trainer, a paramedic and university lecturer in Paramedic Science at Anglia Ruskin University.  John has a background in road, trail running and ultra marathon running and has undertaken several extreme challenges in his running career, which we will discuss in our conversation.  However, he had to find an alternative form of exercise when he developed Osteoarthritis six years ago, which is the subject of this episode.  John is not alone in this condition; approximately 8.5 million adults in the UK have Osteoarthritis and it is estimated that 50% of people over 65 have some evidence of this disease in their joints.Vicky Welsh's Nordic Walking and Mental Wellbeing Surveyhttps://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/XG9V7SJ Further Resources for OsteoarthritisArthritis Action https://www.arthritisaction.org.ukhttps://www.inwa-nordicwalking.com/nordic-walking-osteoarthiritis/In the USArthritis Foundation is a US based organisation https://www.arthritis.orghttps://www.versusarthritis.orgIf you have enjoyed this podcast, I would be very grateful if you could show your support by buying me a coffee!  This enables me to continue producing these podcasts, as it will go towards covering the server and podcast platform licenses.   Not only is Nordic Walking a whole body workout, but it is also one of the safest and most sociable way to exercise.  Classes always finish up in a cafe enjoying a coffee together.
