Ep. 9: Confidence doesn't exist without fear

Hey Everyone,Welcome to episode nine of the Two Coach Confidence podcast. Our aim with this podcast is to bring fun and interesting guests from all areas and walks of life to share their knowledge, stories and experiences of this mystical and subjective topic we refer to as confidence. In today's episode we have a first on the show, not only do we have two guests joining us, but the guests are brothers. Mark and Rob both have a great deal of experience when it comes to working with the topic of confidence. Mark is currently the Head Coach of Loughborough University Men's Basketball, Assistant Coach of Leicester Riders, Assistant Coach of Great Britain U20 Men's Basketball Team, and a Loughborough University Coach Developer.Rob has played an instrumental role as a PE Specialist working on the development of a programme called Sport Education, which led to him being asked to speak at a number of conferences to share his work. During his 10 years at Loughborough College creating a number of high profile elite athlete programmes, Rob was recognised for his outstanding work and contribution to the college and students alike. In this episode,We dive straight into asking each of the brothers to share their definitions of confidence and how those definitions have changed over time.Rob shares his thoughts on how confidence is a very complex part of being a human and how he believes it can fluctuate. The conversation moves into discussing how powerful confidence can be whilst at the same time is something that has a very real sense of fragility about it.Mark beautifully articulates how understanding what confidence MEANS to somebody is crucial in order to be able help them. We take a brief journey into emotional intelligence, and the relevance that understanding your emotions has on confidence. We discuss how protecting your joy has a HUGE part to play in creating more confidence and how comparison is the biggest thief of joy.We look at something we’ve not covered before, and that’s the potential to be overconfident caused by people constantly telling you you’re great even when you’re not!Rob and Mark talk us through how it’s common for people to give their power away which leads to giving their confidence away, even before an event has happened. We look at how overthinking about a situation, building it up to be much more than it is, can actually deconstruct our confidence. What an episode! There is so much wonderful content and dialogue for you to think about in this episode. Kerry and I were literally fizzing with energy for days after. The dynamic and energy of having four coach's all with different experiences, beliefs and understanding was fantastic. We explored a lot, so much so that Kerry and I have invited Mark and Rob back for a part two. As always please Enjoy!Links from the episodeThe Chimp Paradox by Prof Steve Peters - https://amzn.to/31fOg3oThe Confidence Code - https://amzn.to/2YpIU3DA New Earth by Eckhart Toll - https://amzn.to/2FMuUdSFor more information on Mark visit,@CoachJarramFor more information on Rob visit,@robjarram For more information about Kerry's work visit,Website: https://www.kerryhearsey.com   For more information about Adams work visit,Website: My Coach For Life | Life beyond limits
