TVC 528.6: Actress, author, and vocalist Donzaleigh Abernathy talks to Ed about the direct line between her and national youth poet laureate Amanda Gorman, and how Donzaleigh’s father, the Rev. Ralph David Abernathy, encouraged Donzaleigh to pursue her career as an artist just before he died. Donzaleigh’s book Partners to History: Martin Luther King Jr., Ralph David Abernathy, and The Civil Right Movement is a pictorial history of the Civil Rights Movement that also captures the words of both Dr. King and Rev. Abernathy, while showing you first-hand glimpses of who they were as people. Donzaleigh is also the lead soloist on “The Listening,” a unique social justice choral project inspired by “Beyond Vietnam: A Time for Break Silence,” a speech that Dr. King gave in April 1967. “The Listening” is now available as a single through Amazon, iTunes, Spotify, and Pandora.
