Anastasia chats with Dr Matteo Vergani from Deakin University. Matteo is a specialist in political psychology and political sociology. He is also the author of the book ‘How Is Terrorism Changing Us? : Threat Perception and Political Attitudes in the Age of Terror.’ Matteo’s speciality is understanding political violence and hate crimes, and providing advice on how policies can address it. Matteo is part of CRIS (the Centre for Resilient and Inclusive Societies), a collaborative think-tank seeking to address the challenges that undermine social cohesion and community resilience. CRIS aims to build strong, safe and well communities. If you’d like to share with Matteo about the barriers that prevent you from reporting incidents of hate, you can contact him on his email. If you’d like information about your rights, or would like to report an incident, you can contact The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission. And don’t forget our beloved Gay and Lesbian Liason Officers (GLLO) in the Victorian Police. If you do not have family and friends living nearby or a strong local support network it can be hard to get through difficult times on your own. Whether you are in a crisis or you just feel down and need to talk to someone, it is important to know that help is available at all hours of the day and night. There are many free mental health hotlines and mental health online support services across Victoria, which provide crisis support, information, resources, counseling, and therapy to people of all ages.
