When the screws that hold a door hinge in place get loose, you notice it pretty quickly. The door rattles and doesn’t close the way it should….so you break out a screwdriver and fix the problem…you think. But because these screws are holding the weight of the door they’re under a lot of tension, and it’s not uncommon for them to wallow out the wood they’re driven into until they won’t stay tight. Try this! Remove the screw completely and squirt a little wood glue into the hole. Then insert a wooden toothpick or two. When they hit the bottom you can snap them off flush. Now, when you re-insert the screw, it will have something to bite into as you drive it in place….and you’ll have one less chore on your to-do list.
