Do your stained wood cabinets look dated? Stained wood cabinets were really popular in the 80’s and 90’s, but today people prefer more matte finishes so updating those old cabinets is as easy as taking the shine away. Start by removing the doors, drawers and all of the hardware. Then, wipe down the finish of the wood with liquid sandpaper to degloss it and remove all the dirt and grease. Once the surface is dry, apply a coat of spray-on polyurethane in a matte or satin finish to give the cabinets a more modern look. While you're at it you can change the hardware to an antique bronze or a satin black to complete the look.
