Rather than carrying around a notepad or forgetting your measurements before you get to the saw, try this: Peel off the stick-on decal from the side of the tape measure, then clean off any sticky adhesive with solvent or Goo-Gone. Next, roughen up the surface by scrubbing it with 120-grit sandpaper; that’ll give the pencil something to bite into. Now you’ve got a convenient place to write down the dimensions. And after making the cut, you can easily erase the measurement, and you’re ready for the next measurement.
