Thomas Peham is an experienced SaaS marketer, tech enthusiast, hobby runner, semi-pro photographer, and coffee lover. He works in SaaS marketing since 2014, and heads all the marketing efforts as VP Marketing at Storyblok, the first Headless CMS for developers and marketers. Storyblok raised 11 million USD since it was first founded in 2017 and extended over to 130 countries worldwide. In this episode, Thomas shares his experiences in SaaS marketing, Storyblok's journey to the top as the first headless CMS and how the founders' vision helped grow the company from a start-up to an international leader in under 4 years. KEY TAKEAWAYS Although more conventional CRM we commonly see like WordPress and Drupal bring the opportunity to access everything under one roof, headless CRM can be an outside-the-box solution for many businesses, especially if your needs vary. Working with colleagues from different cultural backgrounds can bring great depth to your business and help you through your global journey. Culture keeps on changing day by day and it's important to accept and embrace this change to be able to learn and grow. BEST MOMENTS "The 'headless' CMS basically cuts off the front end, so the website, where you publish the content or your mobile app for example. So the headless CMS doesn't care too much about where you publish your content." "If you look at WordPress, Drupal or in short what we call 'monolithic' systems, it's like an all in one solution. You have your front end and you have your templates within the CMS as well as the back end where your editors can change or create content. And that's great if you just have a simple website. But if you have a business website, maybe an e-commerce store, a point of sale screens in your retail shops, maybe if you are building a mobile app or other interfaces, it brings a lot of challenges. Because suddenly you may need multiple CMS to publish and serve those different channels. And with a headless CMS, you can combine all these under one central content hub." "As we grow, culture also grows and changes. Storyblok is a different company now that we are a team of 100 people compared to 20 people 12 months ago and it will be a different company with a team of 250 people. So the foundation of everything we do from a cultural perspective sits on the assumption that it is changing and it will keep on changing and that we are open for that." "With a global team comes the joy of not being too focused on something and getting different feedback. So for example if we launch a new marketing campaign and if we were a European business, we'd come with our European mindset and understanding. But suddenly we have people from Japan, Argentina or Nigeria in the team and all those different countries bring different ideas to the table. At the end of the day, the outcome is so much better."
