On Thursday, Eliot Halverson chatted with A.J. Sass, an adult and synchro skater and novelist who explores various aspects of gender identity. U.S. Figure Skating also posted a story about transgender adult skater Skate Guard, a website that posts the history of figure skating that is hosted by Ryan Stevens, has been posting some LGBTQ+ figure skating history this month. Mental Health Awareness Month - MayLast month was mental health awareness month. Through Connections Academy, Karen Chen gave a talk about mental health. The talk was supposed to be at the end of May, but ended up being rescheduled for early June. ISU Congress  The 58th ISU Congress wrapped up in Phuket, Thailand on June 10.Russia and Belarus was able to participate in the ISU CongressElectionsJae Youl Kim of Korea was elected as the new president Benoit Lavoie of Canada was elected as the new vice president for figure skating  Patricia St. Peter, Tatsuro Matsumura, Susanna Rahkamo, Gyorgy Elek and Maria Teresa Samaranch​​ were elected to the ISU Council as figure skating membersEric Radford was elected as the ISU Athlete Commission member Age ProposalsThe ISU Congress approved the age limits for singles, pairs and ice danceThe proposal to increase the age of ISU office holders from 75 to 80 was rejected.Summary of other significant developmentsRemoval of requirement for women to wear a skirt in ice dance  Program component categories will be reduced from five to three (skating skills, composition and presentation). ISU will increase component coefficients in figure skating.Qualifying rounds will begin at the 2025 World Championships The base value of a jump sequence will be 100% of the value of the jumps in that sequence.
