Episode 12: The Coming & Going of the Coming of Age
The VoxPopcast - A podcast by Vox Populorum - Mondays

Dear Mr. Vernon, It was the summer of 2018 and it was the best year of our life. We spent that summer podcasting with… (you know, it’s really hard to get the effect of a voiceover narration in text. Oh well. Just pretend that was in the voice of a middle aged Daniel Stern looking back on his childhood.) On this episode, Wayne and Mav are joined by Nicole Freim and Matt Ussia to talk about the “coming of age” narrative or bildungsroman. Today’s entire panel is of the age that one might call “Generation X” and in their teen years, coming of age movies were everywhere. Today, they seem to be somewhat passé. So whether you’re a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess or a criminal, join us as we take a trip down memory lane and try to figure out what went right and what went wrong and where did the memories go… maybe a long the way we’ll see a dead body or finally get to kiss Winnie Cooper in Harper’s Woods. We never had any friends later on like the ones when we were 12. Jesus, does anyone? -The VoxPop Club Citations and Links: * This episode’s Call for Comments * There are WAY too many movies, books and comics mentioned on today’s episode to list them all, but if you decide you want to buy one of them, consider using our Amazon Affiliate link. * Facebook page for Wayne’s event, The Bridge Series w/Girls Write Pgh * this weeks bumpers use clips from Wonder Years and The Breakfast Club * Hear Wayne and Mav on Danny Anderson’s The Sectarian Review podcast * No Miller Lites were harmed in the making of this episode * Thank you to Maximilian’s thoughtForm Music for our theme * Follow Nicole Freim on Twitter: @NFreim * Follow Matt Ussia on Twitter: @MUssia77 * Listen to Matt’s podcast, We’re All Gonna Die!
