We seem to like stories we already know. Not just rereading or rewatching an old favorite. We seem to derive some sort of pleasure in seeing a new version of an old story… a version with a “twist.” What if Superman was a horror story? Well, lets explore that in Brightburn! What if Lizzie Bennet fought zombies? Well, lets find out in Pride & Prejudice & Zombies! We do this with movies and tv shows and comics and novels and of course… with music. Why do we like these things? Hannah, Wayne and Mav are joined by Shakespearean scholar Charlie Bell to discuss how this isn’t really a new thing… after all, we’ve remade Romeo & Juliet in various versions millions of times… but then Romeo & Juliet was actually an adaptation when Shakespeare made it in the first place.
