e211. #PCAACA22: The Presentations

The VoxPopcast - A podcast by Vox Populorum - Mondays

Regular listeners of our show will know that the last couple weeks we have devoted to #PCAACA22, the annual conference for the Pop Culture Association. Two weeks ago, we devoted the show to our planning workshop. Last week, you got to hear us meet with other conference attendees to talk about how it went at our PCA afterparty. This week, on our final PCA special, join us as we share our PCA presentations. First, you’ll hear Hannah present a paper on social Darwinism in the 2021 MCU film The Eternals. Then, Mav presents on Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbies’ Lost Girls and the importance of normalizing explicit sexuality in children’s narratives through parody towards queer acceptance. Next, you’ll hear Wayne speaking about his on-going project Jungian analysis of Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie’s The Wicked + The Divine. Finally, Monica will present an analysis of the X-men comics’ Hellfire Gala and how it challenges and fails to challenge the real life MetGala that it satirizes. Because of the visual nature of the highly visual nature of this week’s episode, we invite you to check out the YouTube version of the episode, which includes the slideshow presentations we presented at PCA. Fair warning, Mav’s in particular isn’t safe for work. Still, go over there and like and subscribe and all that good stuff! In any case, we hope you enjoy the presentations. More than ever we’d love your feedback on our work. Listen & watch and let us know what you think in the comments. Then come back next week for our regularly scheduled show.
