e150. Sexy Cartoons: You Know… for the Kids!

The VoxPopcast - A podcast by Vox Populorum - Mondays

Have you ever noticed how sexy cartoons are? On last week’s Valentines Day show we talked about sexuality in superhero comics and other media. In that case we were largely talking about the kinds of media that really is targeted at adults or at least teens. Comics that are clearly trying to tackle sexual issues, whether directly or allegorically. But what about sexuality in media that is targeted at children. From Bugs and Lola to Roger and Jessica to Wolf and Red Hot Riding Hood… There is a long history of sexual content in allegedly children’s cartoon media. Even Frozen II makes a point of making a few explicit BDSM references. There’s a lot of sex in children’s cartoons. REALLY A LOT! On this week’s episode, Mav, Hannah and Wayne are joined by returning guest Brooklin Mincone to talk about the portrayaI of sexuality in children’s cartoons. Are sexy cartoons just humor for the adults who are watching with their children or is there something more at play? Are these coded messages intended to gender and sexualize prepubescents, or are they are they a reflection of the very real sexuality that children actually have, even if we ignore it? Probably a little from column A and a little from column B. Listen and as we explore the issue and let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
