It’s 2020 and the world is ending… or maybe it’s not… or maybe it ended months ago and we just can’t tell anymore. Honestly at this point it’s pretty much just impossible to tell. With what seems like one disaster after another shaking the planet, we decided to take a look at apocalypse and disaster narratives and examine what it is we like about them. How many movies do we need about asteroids hitting the earth anyway? How many times do we have to see a zombie takeover. Isn’t the real life pandemic we’re dealing with enough? Do We really need to see it on screen? On this week’s show, Mav, Hannah, Wayne and Katya are joined by Rev. Brian Bennett, Lutheran pastor and co-host of the Church of the Geek podcast, to discuss End of the World narratives, how they measure up theologically to the Biblical apocalypse, and what the fascination is with these kinds of stories before this year’s problems and especially now that we’re here.
