24. The Legacy of Fatherhood with Blake Brewer

The Unlimited Potential Show I Relatable Self Development - A podcast by Dr. Ram and Chris Morrell - Wednesdays

Today’s episode hits home for us, with Father’s day coming up we wanted to do an episode specifically for all the dads out there. Over the past few years, we both learned firsthand that being a dad is one of the toughest challenges, and most of the time it’s hard to make sure we’re doing the right thing. However, to say raising kids is all bad would be wildly inaccurate.  The truth is, we will never truly understand exactly how important and impactful it is for us to parent our children. The choices our kids make, the careers they choose, what they dream about at night, the friends they make and everything in between is dictated by what we do and say as Dads.  You may read that and your chest starts to get tight and you think...what if I mess them up?  The pressure can start to set in quickly, right? We totally understand. That is why today we want to reframe or maybe rewire your thoughts around parenting and being a Father.  Welcome back to The Unlimited Potential Show, our guest today is Blake Brewer, CEO and founder of The Legacy Letter Challenge. He is a father on a mission to help 1 million dads be more successful with their kids by writing Legacy Letters. You’ll hear how The Legacy Letter challenge got started, and how the worst day of Blake’s life created a passion for helping dad’s connect and inspire their children.  Listen in as Blake talks about his own dad and the impact he made in Blake’s life by writing a letter filled with love, advice, and encouragement that would bring comfort in the most painful time of life. You will learn about the true importance of Fatherhood, the one thing your kid may need to hear from you and more. By the end you will know how you can write your own legacy letter, and leave a lasting impression on your kids that will have them feeling loved and understood even after you’re long gone.  Disclaimer: Everyone in the family is welcome in this episode! You don’t have to be a Dad to be impacted by Blakes story. The last thing we will say is this episode gets emotional at times as Blake shares the story of when his dad passed. If you have recently lost a loved one and this hits a little too close to home, we encourage you to dive into our past episodes and come back to this one when you are ready.  More Of What’s Inside: The importance of a father’s voice Getting into the mind of a dad How a dad shapes their kid's life One of the best things you can do as a father The moment that turned Blake’s life upside down Three beliefs you can instill in your kids Setting a good example as a dad The influence society has had on the role of fathers Having a coach’s mentality when connecting with your kids Tips on how you can start your own legacy letter The difficulty of being vulnerable Healing your “father’s wound” to help your kids Turning off the phone and focusing on family And much more!     LINKS:  Website: https://www.legacyletterchallenge.com/packages Website: https://www.theendurance.org/about-blake Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theendurance_/ Wiki Article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Bradshaw Wiki Article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Football_League Wiki Article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant   Private Facebook Community:  www.facebook.com/groups/unlimitedpotentialpodcast  Personal Websites:  morrellfirm.com  ramcheruvu.wixsite.com/doctorram    Youtube Channel:  www.youtube.com/channel/UCtSIgawdfsNk0bk4Rwotz7w  Social Media:  www.linkedin.com/in/doctorram  https://www.linkedin.com/in/christopher-morrell    Episode Minute By Minute:  1:12 Introducing Blake Brewer 1:50 Three is the magic number 5:10 What Blake’s legacy letter is and why he wrote it 8:40 A fathers voice is the voice of identity 10:28 Blake recounts a key event with his father 17:25 The way you speak to your children becomes their internal voice in life 18:40 Learning more about what Blake admired about his dad 20:11 What Chris admires about his dad 25:26 The importance of writing letters 29:45 The coach mentality in the home 30:36 The mask of masculinity and the process of writing the letter 36:50 Apologizing well 41:40 Practical steps to be present with your children 43:53 Faith and tragedy 47:43 It’s never too late 51:05 Blake talks about other letters of inspiration
