The topic of “toxic masculinity” doesn’t get enough attention--I know this because people still spout the nonsense. Doug Emhoff, married to Kammi Harris who, you might say, owes her career to “toxic femininity” servicing “toxic masculinity” explained on MSNBC that there is too much “toxicity” in “masculinity.” The best way to answer that charge, I believe, is to never let die the stories of men-in-full from whom many of us were fortunate to learn to be men. We are called to be lambs and lions in the same body, letting those parts of us out when they are appropriate. Sometimes life requires stoicism from men, as much as crying with Christian brothers is also sometimes required. Poor Doug’s struggle session inspired me to share with you stories of real men What does God say? Proverbs 24:5-6 A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might, for by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory.Psalm 1:1-6 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous1 Timothy 4:8For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.2 Timothy 1:7 For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.1 Timothy 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.Colossians 3:19 Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them.John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.1 Corinthians 16:13-14Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.On MSNBC: Second Gentleman Emhoff: "There’s too much toxicity, masculine toxicity, out there. We've kinda confused what it means to be a man."
