Laura Lewis-Barr is an award-winning stop-motion filmmaker and educator based in Chicago. After switching from clinical psychology to theatre during her graduate studies, Laura found her passion in animating fairy tales and mythic stories for personal and collective transformation. She draws inspiration from the works of Joseph Campbell, Carl Jung, and Michael Meade.Laura creates micro-budget films in her basement and regularly hosts screening events that are filled with heart and questions for the soul. She believes that fairy tales played an important psycho-educational role in traditional societies and can be used to provide frameworks for interpreting reality, dealing with personal issues, and encouraging resilience.Laura has personally found fairy tales to be immensely helpful in her own healing and often discovers that her inner struggles are reflected in her projects. Her recent film, "Phone Gal," reflected her personal exploration of the sad fairy tale "Little Match Girl."Aside from filmmaking, Laura speaks on the healing power of fairy tales and regularly posts on social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and her blogs.
