Ep155. Why I'm sending body parts to King Charles, with PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk

The Simply Vegan podcast is your weekly dose of plant-based food, news and topical chat with Vegan Food & Living's Holly and Molly. On today's show, we’re chatting to PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk following the announcement that she's updated her will to send parts of her body to King Charles, the French president, Crufts and Aintree Racecourse so that her activism can continue after her death. Ingrid tells us what PETA have achieved over the past 40 years following their campaigns against animal testing, fur and animal use in circuses and shares their plans to disrupt the leather industry next. We discuss activism as a whole and parallels to the Suffragettes and Ingrid fills us in on why she's leaving parts of her body to well-known figures and organisations. Gruesome, or a necessary way to raise awareness? We'll let you decide. But as always we cover the lighter side of veganism by sharing some plant-based cooking inspiration – including the salsa verde that Holly's putting on EVERYTHING and Molly's to-die-for panko aubergine sandwich with olive tapenade.
