The Ah-Ha! Moment

#125 - I remember when I was a little kid learning to ride my bike. I was pretty good with the training wheels on – but it was time to try it on two wheels only. My parents took off the training wheels and I jumped on and started peddling. I wasn’t sure if I could do it or would fall and hurt myself. By the time I passed the neighbor’s house, I said to myself, ah-ha, I can ride a bike!The Ah-Ha! Moment in Real EstateHave you had your ah-ha moment in real estate – when you realized that yes, you can sell real estate, people will buy and sell from you?Mine came pretty early in my career. I was taught scripts to say. I was told to repeat the exact words I was indoctrinated with and I would be a success. If an objection was posed, I was told what to say. And if that did not work, I was given another line, and another, and another.Only problem was that all of the lines sounded so phony to me.I'm Going To Be MeI made a decision early in my career that I wasn’t going to try to put on a phony sales person persona. I was going to be myself – a regular guy. I would be friendly and helpful and try to assist my clients in achieving their goals. And guess what? It worked. People liked working with me. They bought and sold with me. I found that I only had to be myself to be successful, that’s it. No phony lines or persona needed. Ah-ha!Have You Had Your Ah-Ha!
