The Sleepover Club: The Myth Of The Feminine Mystique

Why, even though we're all apart of generation overshare, is the allure of being mysterious is still so compelling? This week on the podcast Ione and Olivia are discussing how feminine mystique is still something to aspire to; from it's classist connotations, to how for marginalised people it's another unattainable goal, and why we wrap up our own desirability with our ability to remain intriguing. We'll be outlining the cultural moments that resisted this stereotype alongside the ones that bowed to it's seduction, as well as discussing the idea that cloaking yourself in mystery actually strips you of your autonomy by allowing the patriarchy to map its every whim onto your being. The Polyester Podcast is brought to you by Polyester's founding editor in chief Ione Gamble (@ionegamble), and co-hosted and produced by Olivia Graham.
