Tom Dunne enjoyed great success as the front man of Something Happens. The band had a string of hit singles in the charts, including Parachute and hello hello hello, and they played to packed houses all over the world. But there came a point, as there does with many great bands, where they decided, for various reasons, to stop recording albums and touring the world. Since then, Tom has become a hugely popular broadcaster on Today FM and, more recently, Newstalk, and he’s also a dab hand at writing – he has so many stories to tell! In our chat on this episode, Tom tells me about the great times they had on the road touring with some music industry legends, he reveals the reason that they decided to call it quits as a band, gives me his thoughts on why some bands become really successful and others don’t, talks about his life in broadcasting and journalism in more recent years, and we share some lovely memories of the great Tony Fenton.
