Shaun Eli | You only need to make your audience laugh if you want to get paid well

What does making people laugh have to do with influence and persuasion? Quite a lot really. Comedy and humour can be very useful tools in your influence and persuasion toolkit when employed well and sadly, it's an area that is often overlooked in studies on influence and persuasion. It can be a powerful rapport tool. We tend to like people who can make us laugh and we are more likely to remember things when we find them funny. Being able to vary the emotional experience of your audience is one of the hallmarks of a confident and experienced speaker. Humour requires looking at the world a little differently. Not everyone will feel humour is for them but even a small chuckle or groan-worthy dad joke in a presentation can lighten the mood and expand the emotional journey of your audience. My guest Shaun Eli helps us out with some ways we can add some humour into our social, professional and public interactions. In this episode:The importance of being a clean comedian (if you can be)making humour through storytellingConnecting and engaging with people through humourHow to make your audience feel it's all about themSimple ways to add humour to a presentationWhy a comedy class could be just what you needThe big difference between a professional speaker and a comedianThe three steps to making a jokeand more besides. As Shaun states during the episode, our chat wasn't packed with jokes. We talked humour but not so much the jokes, so if you want to see Shaun in action, and he is indeed a funny guy, you can visit his website BrainChampagne.com and you can connect with Shaun if you'd like him to help make your talks and presentations more entertaining.Did you enjoy the show? Om Podcasten

Podfluence is the show for business coaches who are aiming to grow their reach and recognition by mastering the methodologies to maximise the impact of your presentations. More and more coaches are realising that podcasts are one of the best ways to develop your personal brand, become a trusted voice and generate organic lead flow through strategic investment of time and energy. Relationship marketing is here to stay and there are few better ways to build relationships with your perfect future clients & customers than being on podcasts as a guest or starting your own podcast. Lots of people can tell you how to start a show, a few can show you how to grow a show but hardly anyone out there is showing you how you can become known as a key person of influence in your area of expertise by going on the right shows and by showing up in the right ways. Just as public speaking can increase your credibility and professional image, it all depends on being able to present yourself well, deliver messages with clarity, confidence and charisma as well as being able to keep people entertained and engaged whilst you have their ears. Few other formats have your voice going directly into the ears of most of your listeners the way podcasts do and the ability to have longer form conversations that allow people to better know you and understand how you can help them solve specific problems. Join me week by week as I share my own experience and expertise as well as those of other experts and valued voices who are maximising their impact through the medium of podcasts. You're invited to join the Podfluencers Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/mrpodfluence and to subscribe to the Podfluencer Weekly Newsletter on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/newsletters/podfluencer-weekly-6882642444815519744/.
