When Nancy Randall's parents died, Zeke Salters took her in. He was to care for Nancy, and manage her inheritance, until she came of age. While Nancy is in town visiting Widow Stevens, Zeke's place is burned. When the people in town ride out to help, Zeke claims the blaze was started by a masked man and an indian who came to rob him.
