#118 - TV Series Finales: The Ones We Love & the Ones We Love to Hate (with Amanda Hood)

The Couch with Mary Carver - A podcast by Mary Carver

Traditionally, most TV series have aired their final episodes in May. Now with streaming and shorter seasons even on networks and cable, a series finale can come any time of the year. But we’re still gonna talk about them now, during this time of the year. Because if I know one thing about The Couch community, it’s that most of you love you some This Is Us and, like it or not, your beloved show is coming to an end this week.   My good friend and long-time listener, Amanda Hood, has joined me for this episode, as we discuss why people (and by “people,” I mean us) get so worked up about finales, which ones are for the birds, and which ones we love.   Originally from Louisiana, Amanda has lived all over the U.S. and currently calls Orange County, California, home. She spends her days working with homeless neighbors who have disabilities and her free time reading, going to concerts, riding her bike, and—here’s what we’re looking for—watching movies and television.   In this episode, I completely ruin Amanda’s life by reminding her of horrible endings to her favorite shows, but that’s not all. We cover a whole lot of TV shows in this episode, but because this is The Couch (where rabbit trails and side notes are always welcome), we also get into game shows, good fats and health food, and NCIS. It’s a good time, so let’s get started!   MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: Lost How I Met Your Mother Castle Friday Night Lights Scandal JAG NCIS Chuck White Collar Golden Girls Timeless Friends Brooklyn Nine-Nine Superstore Parks & Recreation The Office Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist   NOT-SO-GUILTY PLEASURES: Domino Masters (Hulu) Salmon from the farmer’s market   DON’T FORGET: Join The Couch on Facebook! It’s so much fun! Find Amanda on Instagram at @mildredstephens, and find me on Instagram at @marycarver or at marycarver.com.   Welcome to The Couch!
