The Cinematography Podcast Episode 49: Benoît Delhomme As a cinematographer and a painter, Benoît Delhomme approaches filmmaking from a lighting and color perspective. His first feature film, the Oscar-nominated The Scent of Green Papaya, set in Vietnam, is beautifully shot and lit- and was completely filmed in a studio in Paris. Benoît used softer lighting and brighter colors for The Theory of Everything, the 2014 biopic about Stephen Hawking, to bring the physicist's vivid ideas about the universe to life. For the film At Eternity's Gate, about artist Vincent Van Gogh, Benoît and director Julian Schnabel- a painter as well- had a free-form and experimental approach to the film, which is largely handheld. Benoît's recent film, Minimata, is about war photographer W. Eugene Smith and will be released in 2020.
