For more than a decade, she was an opinion columnist for The Los Angeles Times. Her work has also appeared in numerous publications, including The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, and Vogue. She is also an adjunct associate professor in the Graduate Writing Program at Columbia University’s School of the Arts (where she was once a student herself).
