Here's my take from experience working with fears and anxiety. Rarely do I focus on the fear, anxiety or phobia itself. These are just manifestations of an overfull emotional cup. I go straight for whatever emotion is present, whatever memory needs to be worked on. By doing this and getting an emotional release, the cup gets emptied a little. The anxiety, fear or phobia quietens down. The event or memory that gets processed may have no direct correlation with the present day fear or anxiety.
