The Agile Financial Planner - A podcast by Roger Whitney

Categories:

If you’ve been trying to run a financial planning business for any length of time, you know the industry is changing - and I believe it’s changing in a way that is to your advantage as a planner. You now have the ability to build a dream business that serves your personal goals and meets the needs of clients who you actually enjoy working for.

That’s the premise for this episode - and for this podcast as whole. I invite you to listen and to join me to learn how I’ve done it, and how you can too.

Outline of This Episode

  • [0:08] Why financial planners need to recognize that the industry is changing
  • [2:14] How can we handle the dehumanizing, commoditized bent of the industry?
  • [5:43] How we’re going to talk about these things in upcoming weeks
  • [6:35] Your first baby step: Subscribe to the show (below) > and challenge a planner friend to listen with you

Financial planning is now a true consultative industry, no longer just sales

It used to be that financial planning was about making sales - much like any typical sales job. But it’s become specialized, personal - in a way that makes it much more possible to niche into an area or client persona that enables you to become an expert in a particular area. THAT opens up all kinds of possibilities.

I know it sounds crazy - to have a more profitable financial planning business by serving a narrower scope of clientele, but it happens every day in my practice and in the practices of many I know.

Here’s what I know about you and your financial planning practice

  1. People need you.
  2. You can build a practice that serves the goals you have for you and your family
  3. You can build a team that is motivated by similar goals and who have a blast doing it together
  4. You can find your ideal clients and work with people you love to work with

But if you’re going to build a financial planning business that looks like that, you have to know that It takes intentional, consistent effort focused on the right things. Let’s say that again…

It takes intentional, consistent effort focused on the right things.

What ARE those right things? That’s what this podcast is going to cover, week by week to take you on the journey from where you are, to a happier, more profitable, client-delighting version of yourself.

I know you can build a financial planning business like this because I’ve done it

  • My life is far different than I ever imagined it could be. I’m location independent (that means I’m not tied to an office).
  • I serve clients who need what I offer and who I enjoy working with.
  • And I have built a remote team of outstanding people who run the basics of my business (and we have too much fun)

You can do all of that - or some variation of that yourself. It’s possible and it’s even inevitable if you take the time to learn what it takes and put those things into practice. Join me for the journey into freedom, my fellow financial planning professionals! The grass IS greener on this side of the fence.
