In this episode Steve discusses job adverts and how writing a job advert in a particular way can drastically improve the chance of people applying for your position. How can you get the best people to apply just by crafting the job posting the right way? Steve details the ideal method to approach potential staff using his experience of filling over 140 different positions for himself and his clients.   KEY TAKEAWAYS    Your job posting is the same as a product or service advertisement in that it requires a compelling headline to draw the attention of the reader. Then you need to make the next paragraph compelling, and so on, to keep the readers eye for the entirety of your posting. Finally, you issue a call to action, (buy this product, get in touch, apply for this job) to complete. Think about inaccurate phrasing and jargon that are going to put people off by being non specific or misleading. Fancy titles often put people off by making them either under qualified for the position or creating the impression that job entails duties that it does not. Initially talk about what its going to be like working for your company. Detail what opportunities are going to be open to them and how they are going to be part of friendly cooperative team that allows them to grow and learn and do their best work. Offer them a position that will make them feel welcome and compliment their personality. Talk about your values. Make clear what your company stands for and what you don’t stand for and what behaviours you prize and those you don’t. It’s important that your potential employee has compatible values to yours. Describe the importance of the role and what the responsibilities mean to you as the employer. Make it clear that this is an important role in which they will be valued and have status. This will make them move on to your call to action. Have a singular action to apply for the position, one click. If you redirect them to a website or give them an email address to apply to they are more likely to get distracted or overwhelmed with too much information.    BEST MOMENTS    ‘If you go on to any job website you’ll see loads of adverts with really boring headlines ; “Virtual Assistant needed for small business. Admin clerk needed or guest manager.” You might know what a guest manager is, but will the person who is applying?’   ‘Our initial job advert is designed to get as many people as possible, the right type of people, to click and it’s what we call “casting our net wide into the recruitment funnel.”’   ‘Who is going to say they haven’t got integrity? But what we are going to say is something like “we own up to our mistakes” or “we take pride in our work”. That’s a statement that actually means something.’   ‘We don’t put extra words in there that are going to put them off doing that one thing we want them to do because in the application process we will narrow down our selection.’   ‘Make it be the kind of place that someone wants to work in and is prepared to go through your recruitment process to be a part of that.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/SystemsAndOutsourcing/  Website: https://systemsandoutsourcing.com/welcome-1  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/drsteveday The RIGHT Assistants For Your Business by Dr Steve Day http://bit.ly/sys-10       ABOUT THE HOST Steve used to be a slave to his business but when he moved to Sweden in 2015, he was forced to change the way he worked.
