02 Expectations – an ego trip?

Expectations are something that our brain creates from anticipation and imagination of what we expect life should be, rather then allowing life to be what it is. Gratitude is a wonderful interplay between expectations that lead to disappointment and the victim state. Gratitude allows us to move into an open hearted space to welcome the present that life is offering now.

Manex discusses expectations and how we also have expectations of spirituality. The real blessing is to get rid of expectations, if you can, by really staying in the present. Expecting is childish. Learning to live with what is here is where we gain tremendous insight into what is. Getting rid of expectations is like opening up multiple doorways and perceptions into reality.

In the egoic state, your sense of self, your identity, is derived from your thinking mind – in other words, what your mind tells you about yourself: the storyline of you, the memories, the expectations, all the thoughts that go through your head continuously and the emotions that reflect those thoughts. All those things make up your sense of self.Eckhart Tolle

“There’s strong data that, within companies, the No. 1 reason for ethical violations is the pressure to meet expectations, sometimes unrealistic expectations” – Stephen Covey. Expectations are poisonous for spirit, and only keep us in the perception of the ego-mind mechanism.
