Altech Chemicals (ASX: ATC) managing director Iggy Tan joins Small Caps to discuss the significant breakthrough the company has made in its research and development of lithium-ion battery technology. Altech has treated silicon particles with its innovative coating technology to successfully produce and test a series of battery anode materials that have about 30% higher retention capacity compared to conventional anode materials. The tests also addressed previous challenges in using silicon for lithium-ion battery anodes, including particle swelling, first cycle capacity losses of up to 50% and rapid battery degradation, and announced "significant" improvement. A phase two research and development program is planned to improve on the 30% energy capacity retention and develop a pilot plant. For more information: https://smallcaps.com.au/stocks/ATC/
