Working from the heart with Georgie Abay, Founder of The Grace Tales.

Powerful Stories with Tory Archbold - A podcast by Tory Archbold

In her twenties, writing for Vogue, Georgie Abay was flown to Paris for couture shows, had A-list status at Chanel cruise collections in the south of France and famous designers on speed dial. Then a very personal trauma saw Georgie give up her beloved, prestigious associate editor job with no regrets. Pregnant with her second child, she went into labour at 23 weeks and was on bed rest for three months before a post-partum haemorrhage saw her life saved by five blood transfusions. Georgie had an epiphany: she was done with a nine to five job. What counted was family, and writing about things that mattered. “When something like that happens to you, it makes you question what do I want my life to look like moving forward,” Georgie tells me on the new Powerful Stories podcast. “I knew there was no going back to Vogue. I wanted to support and help women and make our community feel less alone.” Georgie founded motherhood lifestyle platform The Grace Tales, built around content, community and connection. I’ve always loved how it tells heart stories, which Georgie says she values more than any yarns to do with celebrities or floral dresses. The site has long been a smash success but this year Georgie faced huge business challenges, which we talk about on the podcast—along with the secrets of being happy, why she gets up at 5am every day, the one big thing corporates have wrong and the importance of admitting life isn’t picture perfect. “When we share our vulnerabilities, that’s when we heal,” says Georgie. “We need to be open with one another. That’s how we don’t feel isolated. My work has never felt like work because I have so much passion for it and I love storytelling.” Hear Georgie’s story and strategies—and the old school communications method she swears by—on Powerful Stories.
