Powerful Stories with Tory Archbold - A podcast by Tory Archbold

In this episode of the Powerful Stories Podcast, we sit down with PR superstar, Jules Brooke. Jules is the host of Australia’s only business-focused TV show, ‘She’s The Boss’, which is exclusively about women in business. ‘Being the Boss can be seen as something quite masculine’ says Jules ‘but, I have interviewed some extraordinary women.’ Jules believes that everyone has an interesting story. Her goal is to inspire young women who need to know that sometimes school is difficult – but it does not mean that you can’t be successful and get ahead. Jules loves storytelling and has spent so much of her career working in PR alongside business owners and entrepreneurs. Sharing your own powerful story can be daunting, but Jules gives us an exclusive insight into how we can archive this. ‘Your photo can make or break your campaign’ says Jules, ‘Secondly, you need to understand what is newsworthy and what is not.’ Most people are too focused on the sell, rather than thinking of how you can help others. ‘If you have a strong purpose, get that intro your first paragraph’. So, let’s talk about building brand equity, SEO and raising your profile. As a small business owner or entrepreneur, it is essential. ‘Doing PR is about building your brand online as well as offline. You really need to get 20 or so articles under you, or your business’ name’ says Jules. ‘That way you will own your google page.’ This means when someone googles you, all the content on that first page relates to you, your business and reflects your values. So, what is the perfect pitch to a media outlet? ‘Be direct and straight to the point’ says Jules, ‘Lead with research, a snappy headline, a fabulous photo and include a bio. ‘Write your bio as if a journalist is writing about you’ says Jules. ‘I’m all for packing a punch, showing personality and those funny, quirky stories that make you different from everyone else.’ LinkedIn has become the business platform so many of us use. ‘Be unique’ says Jules, ‘Don’t just write your bio as a CV. Take people on a journey.’ As a lover of people and connection, what is Jules’ next Powerful step? ‘I am going to start a global, on-demand tv network for women in business with only female hosts’ says Jules. ‘When you help other people you get so much back, so for me, this is the thing that fills my soul with joy and delight.’ So, sit back and enjoy this powerful story with the extraordinary Jules Brooke.   Links: Sign up to the Powerful Steps #coffeechallenge to gain Tory’s proven formula for building a global network, with three coffee dates a week.
