Submission is not a response to power and authority—it is a response to trust. When we submit to one another out of our love for Christ, we acknowledge the legitimacy of the other person. One can't experience change without being challenged deeply, especially in our relationships. To yield to the value of another is an act of dependency. There is an inherent submission in living under grace. Dependence applied is being able to trust God with other people and trust other people with God. The need for humility and others-focused love should define our relationships and life in God's Kingdom.
