Ep 517 - Will Amo Ascot appeal spark sea change in riding rules?

Nick Luck Daily Podcast - A podcast by Nick Luck

Nick is joined by Daily Mirror journalist David Yates to discuss the latest news and events from around the racing world. They are joined by trainer David Loughnane, responsible for Norfolk Stakes runner-up Walbank, to discuss the appeal lodged by the horse's owners Amo racing against the winner The Ridler, whose jockey Paul Hanagan received a 10 day ban for careless riding. They ask whether this appeal - for all it his likely to fail - may usher in a change to riding regulations. Looking ahead to the Coral Eclipse, Nick talks to Armando Duarte, racing manager to owners MM stables, about Alenquer, and suggests he may be Cox Plate bound by the end of the season. Nick and Dave discuss the defections from the race, and how they might impact upon it, and also touch on the retirement of star hurdler Buveur D'Air plus the latest worrying data on dwindling racecourse attendances. Later in the show, George Duffield joins Nick to reminisce about one of his proudest moments in the saddle - winning the Eclipse on spare ride Giants Causeway.
