600 jobs could go with proposed closure of Alliance meatworks in Timaru

600 jobs at Timaru’s Alliance Smithfield meatworks plant are set to go under a new proposal put forward on Friday. A consultation period will run for just over two weeks before a decision is made in later in October. Affected staff will be able to apply for jobs at other plants, but redundancies are expected.
