Literature and poetry has the power to shape our identities and provide the path to liberation. Matt Sandler joins Rodger Moran to explore his new book The Black Romantic Revolution: Abolitionist Poets at the End of Slavery and the idea of decolonizing romanticism. Black abolitionists appropriated romanticism in the face of racism to define their cultural identity and promote radical ideas about a collective future. Today, this tradition still helps to shape the political identity of the black community and true liberation. We explore this movement in today’s context and in the fight against neoliberalism.
