We reported in November that the House of Commons voted unanimously for NDP MP Heather McPherson’s motion to extend student loan reprieve through the summer. We cheered, millions of Canadians sighed with relief, and then.... nothing happened. Nearly a month after the vote, payments are being taken and nearly 200,000 Canadians have filed for payment support.Its no secret that urban centers have become havens for the elite. Toronto and Vancouver are unaffordable for all but the ultra-wealthy and commuting is becoming more and more difficult. The City of Vancouver is fighting housing costs by expropriating derelict properties for conversion to affordable housing. Except, are they really? Or are they just buying them from the slumlords who hold them?
