Dr Okwir Ricky Okello | New Big 5 Podcast With Graeme Green

Dr Okwir Ricky Okello is a field veterinarian working with the charity Gorilla Doctors who provide veterinary care in the wild for gorillas in Uganda, Rwanda and DRC. Dr Okello works in their Uganda team. He’s also a photographer. In this podcast, we talk about the challenges of working with gorilla patients, including how to use a dart gun on clever, suspicious animals. We also talk about post-mortems and the emotional toll of working with these endangered animals, as well as the role of photography in conservation work and the creation of a possible new ‘gorilla corridor’ to help mountain gorillas.
