Sam Matterface – Chief Sports Commentator at ITV & Talksport Imagine having a dream from childhood that you are now living out 30 years later! Sam Matterface, now Chief Sports Commentator for ITV & Talksport knew he wanted to work in radio from an early age. He would practice sports commentaries after school. His Mum then challenged him to do more than just around the house making tapes of himself…that’s when Sam’s career started. Hospital radio, freelancing, Quay Radio in Portsmouth and then his big break at Sky Sports News, before prime time shows such as Dancing on Ice and all of England's international fixtures on ITV. Sam’s story is one of resilience, working low paid jobs to fund your dream, and overcoming potentially serious health issues to push on and succeed. Sam talks us through the ups and downs of his career, his preparations for Euro 2021 and the World Cup next year and why you should always make sure your microphone is off when you take a call on your mobile. This is our first ever interview episode of what we hope will be a fantastic list of guests discussing their careers, the challenges involved and the mindset required to succeed in any chosen field.
