We made dozens of terrible puns, we screamed at one of our all time favorite filmmakers, we make sports analogies and we’re really, really trying not to make sports analogies on this show, and we’re predicting this movie to be nominated for awards we would be furious if it won! And yet, after all of the arguing & cursing at the things we hated about The Irishman, we still absolutely loved and have been utterly obsessed with The Irishman. That’s the power of a Scorsese film. That’s a testament to Zallian & this storytelling. That’s what great movies can do to us, folks. The Irishman was terrific despite its many flaws, and we talked about all of it! As always, you get a non-spoiler review first, where we discuss the production values, performances, and script, and we look at it all through an Oscar Lens. We debate how many noms it’ll get, and we compare our guesses to those of our favorite Oscar pundits as well. Then we have a spoiler warning breakdown, we re-enact a scene from the movie, and we dive headlong into this plot. This is where we compare the film to the book. This is also where we wonder why the film ended the way it did. We transition into some more worsts before gushing for like the next 14 hours at all of the bests, and if we’re honest, we could’ve gushed for 14 hours at all of those best scenes.
