There’s a lot to be positive about during this review, but we critique Death Proof much more than Quentin’s previous films. It doesn’t actually age all that well, and the backstory really forces you to view the film in a new light. So we have some tough love for Tarantino in this one. There’s a Year in Review, first watch stories, what makes Quentin dance, homages, Trademark Tarantino, QT’s Screenwriting Advice, and finally, Easter Eggs & Connections to the Tarantino-Verse. But we also continue to follow our basic movie review structure as well. The non-spoiler section goes behind the scenes with casting & production stories, we break down all of the critical & audience numbers in specs, and we review the production values, performances, & script, which all build toward an Oscar Lens. Then we perform one of our favorite scenes to get you into the spoiler review where we talk about all of the many best scenes in Trademark Tarantino. Yes, there are also a bunch of worsts thrown into the fray, perhaps more with this movie than in his previous films. We discuss some of the screenwriting advice Quentin has passed on over the years, and then we close the review by highlighting the easter eggs & connections to the Tarantino-Verse. We both loved Inglorious Basterds, and we’re eager to review that Tarantino film next as this re-watch will continue leading into Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. MMO Weekly will also discuss the news on Tarantino’s comments about his impending retirement from the cinema, and if you’ve missed our speculation about his Star Trek film, make sure you go back to our recent MMOW’s. But the next big project this coming week is our Mid-Year Oscar Report. There, we’ll be going category by category and discussing all of the lovable longshots, awards season possibilities and serious contenders. So do stay tuned. Were we too harsh on Death Proof?
